Pit Stop, a poem by Avery Campbell

i was just a pit stop.

i was there to fix you up,

and wipe you down

for the next person to come around.

you were damaged beyond repair.

but i took the time to fix you

because i cared.

every day, i would work on a different piece of you

never giving up

until it looked brand new.

i made sacrifices

but you were happy

so i didn’t care.

it wasn’t until i put on the final touches

that you started driving away.

that’s when i remembered that pit stops are temporary

no matter how much you changed.
